My Grandpa’s Photo

I’ve never seen my daddy’s Pa.

Because when I was born,

He’d gone already very far –

I mean, he died at War.

That nasty War, that  bloody  War -

It burst at don in June.

Nor proper arms, nor freedom, nor

Hope it will finish soon!

A shabby photo is kept

By Granny on the wall-

The sign of love and joy - except

The  sign of  coming War.

Grandpa is an attractive lad,

Young, smart and very brave.

Beside - his  wife and son, my Dad,

They prayed, “Let God him save!”

God didn’t save him, just as well

He didn’t save the ones

Who marched and fell, got up and fell –

A lot have died – alas!

Let people keep in hearts forever

The ones who got the win,

Let pay our debts and never -  NEVER!-

Let nasty wars be seen!
