Lovers’ Ballad
It was summer forty-first,
Blooming gardens, blooming fields.
An awful war destroyed the peace
To loving hearts it caused the grief.
They loved each other very much,
And dreamed to build a happy life.
By tender hands he gently touched,
“In any case, I will survive!”
She wrote letters every day,
And dreamed to see him anyway.
He answered her «My life”s o’ key»,
And made believe to come one day.
They were full of hate and love,
Hope, faith to stay alive.
Sorrow, joy and happiness,
Memory and kindness.
But… she ceased getting letters suddenly,
«May be he wounded seriously,
Or he forgot me», she cried bitterly.
Thinking like that she felt so badly.
No! He didn’t forget you at all,
And didn’t get war injuries.
He sacrificed himself,
To help his fellow soldiers.
