(Dedicated to my friend whose son died in August 2008)

I have a friend in a southern town,
She lived together with her son,
A merry, kind boy he was,
He loved all living beings because
He dreamt to make a better land
And just to be an honest man.
He didn’t dream about fame,
But then the war with Georgia came.
He served in army those days
And was sent to very dangerous place.
He saved his friends but lost his life,
The price of victory was high.
“Was it his fault? Was it his crime?”
His mother asked me many times,
“I taught him justice, love before,
Why did he die? What is it for?”
She looks at photo once again,
But who could treat the mother’s pain?
Her life has stopped that awful day,
Cause he would never come again.
Let’s kindness win the evil once,
And mothers won’t lose their sons,
Decades will pass without war,
The land will blossom as before.
Farewell to arms! Farewell to war!
Don’t kill each other any more!
We want to live in love and peace.
Oh, people, stop the evil, please!
